The 3am Club

At 3am, Britain looks very different.

The roads are quiet. Office lights are off. Shops are locked. Most of us are asleep, safe in the knowledge that everything will still be there when we wake up. But for thousands of people across the country, the working day is far from over.

While the rest of the world sleeps, security officers continue their patrols. Control room operators answer calls that can’t wait until morning. Engineers head out to faults that have to be fixed before businesses open. Key holders respond to alarms, often not knowing what they’ll find when they arrive. There are no crowds to applaud them. No headlines celebrating another quiet night. In fact, if they’ve done their job well, nobody will even know they were there.

At Veritech, we see these people every single day. We see the officer checking a building for the fourth time in the rain because something “just didn’t feel right.” We see the engineer leaving home in the early hours to restore a critical security system before staff arrive at 8am. We see our control room calmly coordinating incidents while the rest of the country sleeps.
It’s not glamorous work.

It means missed family occasions, disrupted sleep, cold winter nights, and being ready to respond when everyone else is switching off. It demands professionalism, resilience, and the ability to stay calm when the unexpected happens.
Most of the time, their greatest achievement is that nothing happens at all.

• No break-in.
• No damage.
• No disruption.
• No one notices.

And that’s exactly the point.

Security is one of those professions where success is often invisible. The safer a site is, the less anyone thinks about the people who helped keep it that way.

So today, this isn’t a post about technology, contracts or business growth.
It’s simply a thank you.

To everyone in what I’d call The 3am Club—the mobile patrol officers, control room teams, engineers, key holders, and emergency responders who quietly keep businesses, people and communities safe while the rest of us are asleep.
Your work may go unseen by many, but it is never taken for granted.
