Ensuring the safety of women and girls

With the rise in violence against women, ensuring the safety of women and girls has become a major concern for many. The tragic deaths of Sarah Everard, Sabina Nessa, and other innocent women serve as constant reminders of the urgent need to address this public safety issue.

In response, the UK Government launched a strategy in 2019 aimed at Ending Violence Against Women and Girls. According to the report detailing the initiatives, 1 in 4 women in the UK will experience domestic abuse during their lifetime, and 1 in 5 will face sexual violence.

This highlights the pressing need for regulations and actions to reduce violence against women.

The report also notes that the Home Office will collaborate with the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to raise awareness of sexual harassment among door staff. The SIA has a dedicated team actively engaged in preventing violence against women and girls. Led by Kirsty Tagg, this team has reached out to security companies and training providers to support this important cause.
The SIA encourages SIA licence holders to take an active role in protecting women as security professionals and urges security companies to fulfil their duty of care by identifying and reporting predatory behaviour.
