Tinnitus Awareness Week – Construction Sites

Tinnitus-week-2026

That ringing in your ears isn’t “part of the job.” It could be tinnitus — and it can be permanent.

Construction Noise = Real Risk

Power tools, plant, generators, cutting, grinding, alarms — noise damage builds up every day, even if it doesn’t hurt at the time.

Protect Your Hearing on Site

  • Wear your hearing protection — every time it’s required, no exceptions
  • Make sure ear defenders or plugs fit properly
  • Replace damaged or worn-out PPE
  • Use the right protection for the noise level (not all ear defenders are the same)

Reduce Exposure Where Possible

  • Take breaks away from noisy areas
  • Switch off tools when not in use
  • Use quieter equipment or noise controls if available

Know the Warning Signs

  • Ringing, buzzing, or humming in your ears
  • Sounds feel dull or muffled
  • Struggling to hear conversations after work

If you notice these signs, speak up early. Don’t Ignore It
Tinnitus and hearing loss can’t be reversed — but early action can stop it getting worse.

Report symptoms and get your hearing checked.
