From Soldier to Managing Director: Lessons from Both Worlds

From-Soldier-to-Managing-Director

When I left the Royal Artillery, I never imagined I’d one day be leading a successful security business.

The environments couldn’t be more different, but the lessons are remarkably similar.

The Army taught me:

  • Accountability – Own the problem, don’t look for excuses.
  • Teamwork – No one succeeds alone.
  • Preparation – Proper planning prevents poor performance.
  • Resilience – Stay calm when things don’t go to plan.
  • Standards – Do the right thing, even when nobody is watching.
  • Adaptability – No plan survives first contact.
  • Leadership – Respect is earned through actions, not titles.

More than 20 years after leaving the military, these principles still influence every decision I make at Veritech Systems.

Technology has evolved. Industries have changed. The world has moved on.
But good leadership remains timeless.

For fellow veterans who have transitioned into business, what’s the most valuable lesson your military service taught you?
